About Us

Doug Hood Mining Ltd is a privately owned New Zealand based company specialising in plant hire, opencast mining, and civil engineering works requiring significant use of heavy machinery

With a comprehensive and well maintained fleet we provide plant and equipment for hire and contract mining and civil construction services.

In June 2018 we concluded our component of work on the Sumner Road reopening project in Christchurch which required the excavation of a large catchbench between the crater rim bluffs and the Sumner Road, and other corridor improvements including excavation for realignment at Windy Point. This road opened on March 29th 2019.

In March 2018 we commenced a 1.5M bcm overburden stripping project at SN14 block, Stockton Mine for BT Mining Ltd.

In December 2017 we recommenced a civil earthworks project at Stockton Mine to continue raising the embankment on a coal fines storage dam halted mid-2017 due to inclement weather. This work was again halted mid-2018 due to weather.

Between November 2011 and February 2014 we undertook mining services for Solid Energy at Reddale Opencast Coal Mine, Reefton on the West Coast of the South Island.

The company completed 6 years (December 2003 to October 2009) as principal mining & civil contractor at Stockton Mine, moving 25.5 million m3 of overburden and 9.1 million tonnes of coal utilising 3.6 million labour hours.
