New Caterpillar D9 bulldozer joins the Stockton Mine fleet

December 17, 2025

In mid-2025 Doug Hood Mining Ltd purchased a new Caterpillar D9 to increase bulldozer availability at Stockton Mine, specifically to join our existing D8Ts and D9Rs for pit floor and tiphead maintenance and blast levelling.

The D9 was ordered from Terra Industrial NZ Ltd (Terra Cat) in Christchurch in late June 2025 with a build-date of late August 2025 and arrived in Auckland on 1st December 2025.

The machine was transported by B.R. Satherley Transport Ltd first to Terra Cat in Christchurch to configure and add equipment to meet the Stockton Mine specification, then across to Stockton on 11th December 2025.

While in Christchurch Hood Engineers Graham and Frano added West-Trak – supplied wear strips to the face of the blade and built a tilt ram protector.

The GPS system for level control was supplied and installed by the client BT Mining Ltd once at Stockton Mine.
