Recent workshop output – 777D engine rebuilt & ready for the next install

June 7, 2019

Caterpillar 777D dump-truck #16 (nominally 100tonne including 50m3 payload) was manufactured in the USA in 2002, bought new by us in 2004 and put to work at Stockton Mine carting overburden.

The engine (model 3508B EUI) is an 8 cylinder, 34.5L, twin-turbo diesel, with 170mm bore and 190mm stroke, burning 150 litres/hour at full load.

This engine was changed out at 25,192 hours and underwent a full-life specification rebuild (using genuine parts) in our Westport Workshop.

Once assembled the engine was dyno-tested at Goughs Rebuild Centre in Christchurch to ensure it made the correct horsepower (achieved 995hp) and torque (achieved 3,500Lb-Ft) and to check for diesel, oil and water leaks.

This engine (below) is now a spare in our component store in Westport ready for its next installation.
