Recent workshop output – 777D engine rebuilt & ready for the next install

June 7, 2019

Caterpillar 777D dump-truck #16 (nominally 100tonne/50m3 payload) was manufactured in the USA in 2002, bought new by us in 2004, and utilised at Stockton Mine hauling overburden.

The engine (model 3508B EUI) is an 8 cylinder, 34.5L, twin-turbo diesel, with 170mm bore and 190mm stroke, at full load burning 150 litres/hour.

This engine was changed out at 25,192 hours and underwent a full-life specification rebuild (using genuine parts) in our Westport Workshop.

Once assembled the engine was dyno-tested at Goughs Rebuild Centre in Christchurch to ensure it made the correct horsepower (995hp) and torque (3,500Lb-Ft) and to check for diesel, oil and water leaks.

This engine (below) is now a spare in our component store in Westport ready for its next installation.
