Doug Hood Mining has established itself as one of the largest and most successful New Zealand based mining and civil engineering contractors.
Our vision is ‘To be acknowledged by the Natural Resources Sector as the Preferred Contractor’. This focus empowers the company to complete each project on time, to specification, and to meet and exceed stakeholder expectation.
Established by the Late Doug Hood in 1953, the company was predominately focused on agricultural land development before progressing to earthworks contracting on large hydro projects in the 1970′s and then mining projects in the mid 1980′s.
The light civil and agricultural construction side of the business was sold in 2003 and the mining division was advanced to take advantage of a buoyant market in New Zealand at the time.
Between 1985 and 2009 seven large gold and coal mining contracts involving 70 million m3 were completed, and between 1994 and 2002 civil engineering contracts to the value of $42 million were completed.
Characterising its commitment to the mining industry the Doug Hood Mining Board between 2003 and 2009 approved capital expenditure of $60M in opencast mining machinery.
