Hood Mining Limited (DHML) is a privately owned and New Zealand
based mining and civil contracting company with extensive
experience in contract coal and gold mining and large civil
earthmoving projects across the country.
DHML
has a strong and deserved reputation for successfully performing
large, difficult projects - often in environmentally sensitive
locations. The company prides itself on its reputation for
competitively and successfully completing difficult projects
where others have struggled or failed.
In
2003 the DHML board and management made the decision to sell
the smaller civil and agricultural earthmoving divisions of
the business and focus primarily on large mining and civil
work, and remains one of the largest NZ based mining and civil
contractors. Our board and management are intensely focussed
on the New Zealand mining industry and have shown a willingness
to invest in the coal mining industry through the procurement
of in excess of $40M worth of equipment between 2002 and 2006.
DHML
has also been a leader in contract mining in New Zealand in
respect of the practical and innovative approach to providing
mining solutions and overcoming the often complex and problematic
nature of mining in New Zealand. We have displayed these skills
and innovation through our successful completion of the Weavers
Opencast Project and the company continues to trial a range
of cutting edge technology in our West Coast operations, examples
of innovation include the application of an off highway excavator
transporter for large tracked equipment and the use of dozer
mounted GPS technology.
DHML
has embraced a range of quality assurance systems which ensure
a continuous improvement philosophy is a part of the DHML
culture and is evidenced by our ISO9001: 2000 accreditation
in 1997 and our web based quality systems, (Shaping NZ).
It
is also worth noting that the health and safety systems operated
by the company have resulted in ACC awarding DHML the highest
possible rating, (i.e. Tertiary), with regard to their Workplace
Safety Management Practices programme.
During
the past 53 years the Company has encountered a wide range
of materials associated with a variety of mining and civil
projects. This experience and knowledge are invaluable in
determining the correct mining methods, equipment and associated
tender criteria/assumptions.
A
significant number of our senior staff have completed many
years of mining throughout the country. These employees have
an intimate knowledge of material types, their behaviour and
the influence that the weather availability has on the ability
to meet overburden production schedules.
DHML
has a very capable and experienced senior management and in-house
technical team (i.e. survey, mine planning/scheduling and
design), which is a key factor in the success of the company
in past mining projects and when applied with the equally
experienced operations personnel provides a very powerful
combination.
Whilst
we do not require the significant use of subcontractors, DHML
does acknowledge the importance of the range of smaller contractors
and suppliers who perform an invaluable role in supporting
any mining contractor. We continue to foster strong ties to
aligned businesses throughout the country.
